Rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure that achieves nose reconstruction and modification of its appearance for cosmetic purposes or for the repair of congenital, post-traumatic or post-operative abnormalities. Often nasal malformation is accompanied by anatomical abnormalities inside the nose, causing breathing difficulty, snoring, sinusitis and other functional disorders. A large proportion of these disorders are due to scoliosis of the nasal septum, hypertrophy of the nasal conchae and other nasal conditions. In such cases, the doctor can correct at the same time the external appearance of the nose and the correction of the inner anatomical anomalies, in order to obtain the desired aesthetic result, as well as to alleviate the symptoms of dyspnoea, rhinitis and other discomforts.

Functional Rhinoplasty: The term Functional Rhinoplasty is used internationally to better describe the combination of aesthetic rejuvenation with the correction of the internal anomalies of the nose. Rhinoplasty is extremely popular because by modifying the elements of a small but continuously visible mid-facial anatomical zone, it achieves great improvement in the style and overall appearance of the individual without causing visible postoperative scars.

The surgeon who will perform a successful rhinoplasty, in addition to his surgical skills, must be aware of the person's anatomical characteristics and, above all, must have artistic and psychological abilities. He must have an artistic touch.

The desired result: On the other hand, the rhinoplasty candidate must be able to accurately determine the changes he wants at his nose and suggest them to his surgeon. The surgeon, takes into account the candidate's wishes, the anatomic particularities of the person and especially his nose, gender, occupation and character, will indicate the appropriate and technically feasible modifications to his patient's nose. A "French" nose for example would not fit into a Colonel! On the contrary, a smooth nose aligned with other facial features will give sweetness and harmony even to a ordinary face. It is known that the bizarre nose distracts the observer's eye and removes it from other attractive facial features such as fine eyes or lips.

What includes a pre-operative assessment: Dr. Kotzampasakis puts particular emphasis at this stage with the aim of optimizing the pre-operative design of the procedure. Occasionally, more than one visit, preoperative photos and computer processing - with a special program - is required so that the patient has the most accurate picture of the postoperative effect.

ρινοπλαστική Are all rhinoplasties the same? Rhinoplasty is not a specific, repititive intervention but a group of smaller interventions and techniques that are chosen and applied each time, individually, depending on the type and extent of the malformation of patient’s nose. Usually bone or cartilage parts are removed. However, it is not uncommon for cases requiring the addition of tissues, mainly autografts from other parts of the body or foreign biocompatible materials. By combining these individual interventions, the surgeon is able to make any changes in the appearance of the nose and in the facial style.

Can breathing be improved with a rhinoplasty surgery? In addition to the change in nasal shape, rhinoplasty can correct functional disorders such as stenosis or occlusion of the nostrils, scoliosis of the nasal septum, hypertrophy of the nasal conchae, removal of adenoids, removal of scars, tumors or other congenital and acquired abnormalities on the inside and outside of the nose.

The procedure of rhinoplasty:  The operation is done in the operating room with general or local anesthesia, lasts 1-1.5 hours and requires stay in the clinic for 24 hours. The postoperative course is painless and well tolerated. The process is completed in 7-8 days with the removal of nasal cast. In cases where complex disharmony is seen in the nose and chin, rhinoplasty is associated with genioplasty, ie reduction or enlargement of the latter. This complex operation is called profilloplasty and aims to restore the profile to acceptable anatomical and aesthetic contexts.

"The quality of human life depends on the harmony and balance between his health, his psyche, and his social interactions. Medicine, in various ways, contributes to precisely this harmony of life qualities. Through a series of targeted and careful interventions, both aesthetic and functional, an excellent result is achieved that satisfies all three of these conditions."
